President Obama has agreed to appear on the popular Discovery Channel show, Mythbusters.
Unfortunately, the ‘myth busted’ may have little to do with that show, and more to do with the charade of Mr. Obama’s credibility.
We all new these words out of Obama’s mouth were a joke:
“There’s no question the other side sees a chance to get back in the driver’s seat,” Obama said. “They are being helped along this year by special interest groups that are spending unlimited amounts of money on attack ads … just attacking people without ever disclosing who’s behind all these attack ads. You don’t know. It could be the oil industry. It could be the insurance industry. It could even be foreign-owned corporations. You don’t know because they don’t have to disclose.”
Obama goes on to make this accusation:
“This is a threat to our democracy…And if we just stand by and allow the special interests to silence anybody who’s got the guts to stand up to them, our country’s going to be a very different place,” President Obama stated in response to the Chamber of Commerce scandal.
House and Senate Democrats have received approximately $1.02 million this cycle from such PACs, according to an analysis compiled for The Hill by the Center for Responsive Politics. House and Senate GOP leaders have taken almost $510,000 from PACs on the same list.
The PACS are funded entirely by contributions from U.S. employees of subsidiaries of foreign companies. All of the contributions are made public under Federal Elections Commission rules, and the PACs affiliated with the subsidiaries of foreign corporations are governed by the same rules that American firms’ PACs or other PACs would face.
“This is not foreign money per-se, but these PACs are certainly populated by people who work for foreign companies,” said Dave Levinthal, a spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics.
At this point, it is really in doubt why anyone takes anything that our President says at face value. At this point, this has transformed from simple election year political grandstanding to something far, far worse. Outright lying? I don’t know if I would go that far, but if not, it is pretty close.
The President and his allies, most notably David Axelrod, have continuously spun not just the story, but the truth itself, in trying to make this a story. In fact, Democrats and Obama’s campaign in 2008 itself used far more money from foreign sources than all of the GOP sources in the 2010 election cycle combined!
But Obama may have a point. If the foreign money given is a threat to democracy, and he received more foreign money than anyone to get elected? Maybe that is the one credible threat to democracy
