Top Democrat Excuses…

Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

The whining and rationalizations on the left has begun.  And the election hasn’t really started yet.

Over the next week, and I am sure the coming months, progressives will come up with every random idea under the sun to explain why their candidates, as well as their hand chosen President, failed to win the hearts and minds of the American people.  And the majority of those ideas will be extremely and utterly idiotic.

Just a few examples:

1.  Our message didn’t get out.

Yes it did.  That is why you are losing.

There are a few major issues this election cycle. On every one of those issues, Democrats are on the wrong side of the fence…and are too arrogant to realize it.

One is Obamacare.  Looking at polls, over 90% of Americans have heard about the major policy initiatives in the plan.  And a supermajority doesn’t like it, and a majority wants it repealed.  Obama’s message about Obamacare has percolated through the public…it is simply that they don’t accept his spin on the subject.  The above video, for your pleasure…

The other major issue is, of course, the economy and unemployment.  Again, Obama has a story to tell:  how he saved the world with his stimulus.  The problem is…the public doesn’t believe it.  It isn’t that they are necessarily against the stimulus, but almost 2 years later, with 10% unemployment, no one is in the mood to listen.  And they especially don’t believe Democrats, when they spent the majority of the last two years talking about anything but the economy and jobs.

They simply have no credibility on the largest issue of the year.

2.  Outside groups bought the election!

Not even close.

First of all, although outside groups on the right are overspending left leaning groups, the advantage is not as prominent as the White House has tried to make it look.  For example, the largest outside spender is AFSCME, not one of the new conservative groups.  They are spending the most money of any outside group this election, dropping $87.5 million to help Democrats. Other unions are also spending tens of millions on the campaign.

And even if you take all outside money spent…it accounts for less than 10% of the total expenditures this year.  Not exactly a tidal wave, as Obama would lead you to believe.

In fact, you could argue that money wise, this is one of the fairest elections in modern  history.  From the Politico:

So far, the latest figures show that the Democratic Party machinery has outraised its Republican counterpart in this campaign cycle by almost $270 million.

And even when outside spending on television advertising and direct mail is added to the mix, Republicans still haven’t closed the gap.

The money race totals come to $856 million for the Democratic committees and their aligned outside groups, compared to $677 for their Republican adversaries, based on figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Included in that total: conservative groups have spent $169 million on ads attacking Democratic House and Senate candidates, compared to $80 million by liberal-leaning groups, based on figures as of Tuesday morning.

In other words, Obama’s cry for fairness should be made to the political left, not to conservatives.  Overall, even with outside expenditures, the right is being outspent.

You are welcome to your opinions, Mr. President…but not your own facts.

PS:  The New York Times on Nov. 2nd had an article clearly stating that Democrats outspent Republicans in House races in 2010.  Pretty ironic, no?

3.  We lost…but not as bad as we should have!

Now, this story is yet to be told.  But no matter what happens on election day, the Democrats have obviously failed miserably.

At the beginning of the year, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were talking about not only holding both the House and the Senate…but even possibly picking up seats! And as recently as last week, Nancy Pelosi and the DNC leadership continued the rant that they would hold both houses of Congress.

But that is not the reality.  Pelosi will almost surely be voted out of the Speaker’s office next week, and Harry Reid may be sent packing into retirement.

Now, every reputable election predictor, from The Hill to Charlie Cook, is predicting a 50-plus seat loss for Democrats, and borderline hold on the Senate.

4.  This is not a national referendum on President Barack Obama.

Um, I could possibly, maybe, kind of agree…if the Messiah didn’t say himself that this was exactly that:  a referendum on his agenda:

So yeah…it is a national referendum on the presidency.  Thanks, Mr. President, for the clarification.

Overall, I am sure Democrats will come up with more ridiculous and outlandish excuses for losing.  If this was a 20-30 seat loss in the House, certainly it could be explained by normal historical factors, thta have borne out for decades, of the leadership losing seats in a midterm election.

But this is a historic wave election.  Almost every pollster sees it. The majority of experts saw it.  The only people blind to it were the President and Democrats.

Last year, as Democrats were wasting time on health care, people were screaming about jobs.  Early this year, when Democrats used reconciliation to pass health care, people were outraged (and at the time, I said if Democrats use reconciliation, they would lose 70 seats in the House; not such an outlandish prediction now, is it?).  When they passed the stimulus, everyone with a brain said it would not create jobs.  And Democrats simply did not listen.

They likely will listen on election day.  Or, considering how dense liberals are, maybe not.

Every normally intelligent adult, which includes John McCain but not Hussein Soetoro, knew back in January 2009 that the key to America’s economic recovery was to reduce taxes on income, capital gains, and dividends. People keeping more of their own money would stimulate sales, profits, the stock market, investment, and jobs. So what did we get?

We got high taxes, massive unemployment, out-of-control spending, and a government of criminals. Communist advisors in the White House, unapproved by Congress, against the Constitution; a federal budget “deemed” passed without the Constitutionally required affirmative vote, but signed by the president anyway; a racist Dept. of Justice that blatantly discriminates against the nation’s white majority; and two unqualified, partisan Supreme Court justices with contempt for the law who think themselves free to “interpret” the Constitution any way their radical socialist agenda dictates.

We got economic tyranny. Trillion-$ deficits; ruinous giveaways to Democrat union workers; an objectively murderous and destructive socialized “health care” monstrosity that makes everything far worse, especially for the senior citizens who need medical services most; a fascist-style “boot on the neck” of the auto, oil, banking, securities, student loan, and insurance industries; a campaign to wreak the economy by doubling energy costs; and a sneak attack on U.S. security, flinging the Mexican border wide open to drug lords and illegal aliens.

That is just the tip of Obama’s sorry iceberg of malfeasance. The malicious subversions of this lying fraud go beyond politics. The Kenyan is attacking each one of us personally. The American people have a right to defend themselves, and tomorrow, November 2, so we shall.
