There are very few things in life that I thought would make me call for the resignation of a politician. Clear corruption and dereliction of duty, surely. Treason, obviously. If they stated “Hail Hitler” on the floor of Congress.
Somehow Rep. Akin found a new one.
Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy.
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
This is abhorrent, ignorant, idiotic, foolish, blindingly stupid…I would use a few other choice words, but I have promised never to curse on this site.
Akin must go…now. I am willing to give leeway to candidates saying dumb things once in a while, things that are a slip of the tongue, or a simple misunderstanding. This is none of those. The video of this is worse than the quote. It shows a man that is clueless beyond all measure, and shouldn’t be voted in as a local dog catcher, let along as a U.S. Senator.
It is time for the GOP and the conservatives of America to stand up and replace this man, because he is not fit to be a member of the U.S. Senate.

I agree that this ignorant Neanderthal…with apologies to Neanderthals…must go. Ignorant, arrogant and insensitive do not begin to define this man. A ‘legitimate’ rape? The woman’s body “‘knows what to do…in these situations…to prevent pregnancy?” I would love to hear the medical experts named who informed him of this. “It’s rare that a rape ends in pregnancy”??? Well, explain that to victim #9543 who happened to end up pregnant as the result of a ‘legitimate rape’.

Wow this statement really is beyond logical thinking. I really do not believe in abortion but it is not my right to decide weather a woman should have one or not. The thing that really gets my goat here is that this guy actually inferred that if the baby is conceived during the rape, that the body has accepted it as conceptual sex. For me it is not the fact that he disagrees with abortion but that he talks as if he is the one who created the woman and has all the answers when in fact he does not know crap.
I’m LIVID! There is NO such thing as a “ligitimate” rape! And where did he get his medical information? He’s blatently stupid to believe such medical hogwash! He couldn’t think his way out of a thrid grade math problem! He simply CANNOT be allowed to remain in congress! Kick him out!!
