Against Obama’s Policies? Then You Are Unamerican and Racist…
This week’s Tax Day Tea Party movement gave us insight not only on how liberals view the right, but how the mainstream media (often inseparable from liberals) views conservatives.
The number of hateful, racist and just downright stupid comments from the left was staggering, even from someone who accepts the left for who they are.
The most surprising to me was CNN. Look, I know CNN is left of center, but at the same time they generally don’t follow the buffoonery of MSNBC. Well, things have gotten so bad at MSNBC, GE actually had a mini-revolt on the subject at a recent shareholder meeting. About time, too.
That said, this week took CNN to new lows. First, there was the very unhappy CNN reporter, Susan Roesgen, whose contempt for any of the protestors went beyond any journalistic ethic. This was the same woman who did a ridiculous puff piece on liberal protests in January. CNN is so worried about the bad press from the below video, that they have tried to pull it from Youtube on ‘copyright’ violations. What nonsense…this is fair use, clear and simple. CNN is clearly embarrassed by the actions of a stupid reporter, and is now covering up the evidence as much as possible.
Then Anderson Cooper, who I generally respect, started doing teabagging jokes. I expect that from the moron Keith Olbermann, and to a lesser extent Rachel Maddow, but Anderson Cooper? You can’t even watch these shows safely with your children anymore. This is how low the cable news network has fallen.
I think the local news networks in most markets did a horrific job as well. In Columbus, there was little coverage. You have these networks cover three people from Code Pink protesting military events, but a few thousand right wingers in front of the State House doesn’t even deserve a mention.
The ‘talking heads’ on TV were out in force. Paul Begala, the idiot that he is, said that we should patriotically pay our taxes and be happy to do it. I am fine paying my taxes…but I consider protest to be the heart of patriotism. And I wonder if Begala feels that Timothy Geithner and others in the Obama Administration are not patriots because they didn’t pay their taxes for so many years. David Axelrod said the protests were dangerous…danger to whom, exactly? Then there was James Wolcott on C-SPAN, which was beyond ridiculous. First he gave false information that most of the Tea Parties were less than a hundred people, and that no newspapers were covering it. Then the C-SPAN host dilligently went through all the local newspapers that had the story on their front page, telling the thousands that showed up; she then asked if this changed his mind. Wolcott said no. So much for intellectualism.
And that doesn’t even begin to talk about non-entities such as Jeneane Garofalo. For example, it appears that Garofalo makes up stories with frequency. These people did not have the intellectual honesty to understand that there were real isssues here; so much so that many Republicans were also the target of these protests. In some ways, this revolt was more bipartisan than the Obama Administration. From Michelle Malkin, just an example of one of those that Ms. Garofalo thinks is racist…shock, she isn’t white! I didn’t think that was possible!
By far, however, the worst and most important were Democrats. The White House wrote off the entire nationwide protests (800 or more sites in all) as nothing; so much so that the President, according to his Press Secretary, was not even aware of the events. That shows how connected Mr. Obama is with reality. Then we had Congressional Democrats insult the whole movement, calling them ‘Astroturf’ (instead of grass roots), saying that lobbyists created the movement (total lie). Some went as far to call the whole movement as ‘racist Nazi gun nuts’. As a non-white, non-gun owning American, I am generally insulted by the entire sentiment.
Now, all of this is overshadowed by the Department of Homeland Security’s ill-timed release of the report on right wing extremists and terrorism. Now we find out the Civil Liberties Division of DHS raised many concerns about the report before it was released. Clearly, that places the blame for the report in the hands of the Obama Administration, not President Bush, because some one there decided the report was fit for release…conveniently right before the Tax Day Tea Party revolt, no less.
Secretary Janet Napolitano has spent the last few days trying to put out the fires from this, apologizing to veterans for being so prominently discussed in the report. Senators are now asking the Secretary to back up claims in the report with proof. But it does speak to a larger issue. The same week that the Obama Administration is declaring FARC in Columbia insurgents and not terrorists (an organization that regularly takes hostages, including Americans), they declare that veteran groups are at risk of becoming terrorist entities. Again, you have to wonder what the political background of the people writing these reports are.
Look, I have no idea what the future holds. I don’t know if this movement will be any more than a one day event, or will carry over to some larger degree. What I don’t know is that politicians, liberals, and the mainstream press write of the single day protests of 300,000 Americans across cities and towns this great land at their own risk. A recent Rasmussen poll shows that 51% of Americans have a favorable view of the Tax Day Tea Parties. And the more elitist that Democrats act and appear, the more they are likely to appear disconnected from the every day needs and hardships of most Americans.

You should bear in mind the context that this comes after 8 years of people who disagreed with Bush’s policies being told they were unAmerican, treasoness and should “love it or leave it” by FOX News and conservatives at large. It’s also after FOX News people like O’Reilly dismissed Code Pink political protests out of hand as “pinheads” and declared that nobody cared what they were protesting about. What goes around comes around, as they say.
It also comes in the context of a protest idea that doesn’t make sense. The historical allusion doesn’t work. This is taxation by a democratically elected president in accordance with his election campaign platform, the opposite of taxation without representation.

Postings like MK’s illustrate the absolute inability of the left to debate. The article raised the point that the supposedly unbiased media favorably covered small code Pink demonstrations and ignored much larger ones, or attacked them on air. MK then defends the supposedly unbiased media arguing that it’s ok for them to enact partisan revenge. Is the mainstream media about payback? Something doesn’t wash, here. Your logic, MK, is absurd.

Lord help us
Finally, someone sums up the entire problem with the Obama administration. His campaign promises were all lies (no earmarks, no lobbyists, transparancy, etc.), he has moved from his contrived centalist campaign to his real leftest agenda, and he arrogantly dismisses the half of the country who did NOT vote for his Socialist wet dream! We only have to hold on until 2010 when the Sleeping Giant will speak.
What the world needs now is love! I will remember you in my prayers
!!!!
I agree with nearly everything you say. However, I am disturbed by your statement, “Some went as far to call the whole movement as ‘racist Nazi gun nuts’. As a non-white, non-gun owning American, I am generally insulted by the entire sentiment.” Your second sentence, “As a non-white…” feeds directly into the liberal definition of racist, that only whites can be racist. If you are any other color, you are pure of heart and have no racist/prejudices at all. PLEASE think about what you have said and what it implies. Anyone of any color can be a racist.
Who God puts in power even after years of undeniable odds. Let no one condemn unless it is to condemn himself. History cannot be denied the old way will always make way for a bright new prosperous one.
I LOVE the fact that Begala called protesters out on the “patriotism” issue, ESPECIALLY defending our veterans. It is as if he has no idea at all that the Department of Homeland Security is calling veterans TERRORISTS. The administration won’t even call TERRORISTS what they are, but they will put that tag on our veterans (whose votes they routinely try to disallow).
They expect demonstrations of 4 people to be taken seriously, but can’t even fathom how many people were out demonstrating against the INSANE spending of Obama.
They initiate the concept of “ASTROTURFING” and deny it, until they find it convenient to drag the term out for this series of events, pretending to invent it.
I found Janeane Garafalo’s comments the most disturbing. These people are all the same. They have nothing between their own ears, so they simply paint anyone who doesn’t agree with them as evil racists. Then you don’t have to defend what you think. You just point an ignorant finger.
They like to turn all of black America into the liberal petting zoo. They don’t care that they cause generations of poverty in America. This is about actualizing THEM, not helping others. Black Africans, Mexicans and Eastern Europeans come here with NOTHING and they make it more than our poor EVER will. Because the liberals have convinced them of their INFERIORITY. Come on legals and illegals. Show this country what can be achieved with some hard work and sacrifice. You shame the LAZY, FAT, American poor who learn NOTHING from the liberals except to SIT UP AND BEG!
I apologize if that is how you took it. Actually, my point was that the Tea Party crowds were diverse in race, creed, and political background. For the media to say that it was prejudiced against any group is just plain nonsense. In many ways this was on of the biggest bipartisan protests that I can remember.
Don’t be disturbed about Garofalo…she is an idiot.
Obama is more concerned about every country but his own.
Which will bite him right in the butt!! I am sorry But it looks like he is going to spend every penny he can of ours our children, grandchildren, while he is in office. (then probably move to another country. If he is into socialism.. heck move to France.
I thought it was time for a black president.. not this one!!
Our Families are starving, while he jets off (with 500 of his closest friends around the world. (on our dime).
finaly someone who speaks what i see and the press doesnt. hope 4 years goes by quick so we can save america from this clueless bunch
It doesn’t matter what CNN, MSMBC. ABC, NBC or any other station says about the Tea Party’s. We have united as one in our beliefs. And this is just the beginning of our protest. Consider April 15, 2009 as a practice run and now the real work begins. We are networking across America to come together and uphold our Constitutions. There is no Black or White there is only doing the right things for the right reason.
And if Obama did not notice the Tea Parties, why did he today say he is going to start getting his groups to work intensly on uncovering and getting rid of governemt waste, exactly what much of the Tea Party protests were about? If you will notice, Obama responds to public opinion 10 times quicker than Clinton. Clinton would wait for polls to tell him which way to blow
Obama will respond the next day or two to any negative news. It is his way of quieting as many as he can and put distance and time on his side. Now we should all be quiet and wait until the end of the year until his group comes out with the way to save the United States by cutting bad programs. SO, ALL YOU EXTREMISTS, you can go get some rest now. Our savoir is on the job.
As a strong supporter of Obama, I, nevertheless, liked your article. It was thoughtful and made me wonder if the arguments of the right are being given due consideration. Keep an even tone – let the extremists on both (all) sides cancel each other out, and let thoughtful voices on all sides listen to each other. In my view and after considerable research, I think Obama is one of those thoughtful voices, regardless of whether one agrees with his liberal leanings.
Thank you. I really appreciate it. That is what I try to go for. I admit where I am biased; who isn’t biased? But I WANT Obama to succeed as President. I just don’t think his current policy will succeed. I hope I am wrong. And keep reading…and keep me in check if I get too extreme.
I am offended by that DISGUSTING, VILE, GREASEY PIG, Garofolo calling ALL White People Racist for attending Tea Parties. Please Boycott the show “24″ if you watch it, I don’t watch it, but if they don’t take her off that show, I will be Boycotting Fox and its sponsors, as I am Boycotting msnbc and cnn, (yeah, that’ll be difficult, they suck anyway, but I am contacting their sponsors and Boycotting anyone who advertises on their networks) This is my right to do so and I cannot and will not support a bunch of Dirt Bags who call me a RACIST.
MK should post something only after his IQ has reached double digits and when he learns a bit of early 21st century American history.
