Obama Either Most Or Least Popular President…
This is how meaningless polls are, especially at this point in a Presidency.
While many pollsters show Obama at a relative high politically, others show the opposite. For example, the Washington Times/Gallup Survey for April shows Obama’s popularity at 56%…one of the lowest in the modern era.
The only new president less popular was Bill Clinton, who got off to a notoriously bad start after trying to force homosexuals on the military and a federal raid in Waco, Texas, that killed 86. Mr. Obama’s current approval rating of 56 percent is only one tick higher than the 55-percent approval Mr. Clinton had during those crises.
What does all this mean? Absolutely, positively nothing. Ultimately, The 100 day mark is irrelevant. Remember, George W. Bush had a fantastic 100 days to start: passed tax reform, No Child Left Behind, well on his way to being a very successful president. Jimmy Carter’s first 100 days weren’t bad either; he was still basking in the post Nixon/Ford glow.
In other words, the first 100 days is meaningless. Obama’s personal ratings will stay high for a couple reasons. First, he is a likeable guy. Second, being the first African American President has significant resonance. Third, there is no one else on the field of battle that is remotely likeable at this point. But, the 100 days is still meaningless. Regardless of how many media outlets waste their time on it, and regardless of how many press conferences the White House teleprompter…oh, I mean, President Obama gives.
