Abortionist Shot Dead
Media reports say that abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has been shot and killed at his Wichita church.
Tiller, nicknamed ‘the Baby Killer’ by pro-life advocates, was one of the few people actively and publically performing late term abortions in this country. He was acquitted in March of misdemeanor charges stemming from procedures he performed, but moments after the verdict the state’s medical board announced it was investigating allegations against him that are nearly identical to those the jury had rejected.
This is an outrage. I am generally pro-life (you can see my page regarding my convoluted beliefs here), but this is vigilante justice at its worst. Heck, I would even call it terrorism. People cannot take the ‘law’ (as they see it) into their own hands. That is what Al Qaeda, Hamas, and the Taliban do. A suspect has been arrested, and hopefully they throw the book at him.
Thankfully, some pro-life groups have commons sense:
“We are shocked at this morning’s disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down,” anti-abortion group Operation Rescue said in a statement on its Web site. “Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller’s family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ.”
We are a civilized society. I don’t like what Dr. Tiller did, and felt he should be dealt with by the legal system. But this, this is beyond the pale. This is an offront to anyone who believes in law and justice in this country.
Are you spelling things like that on purpose? “beyond the pale and affront.” Also the ‘Baby Killer’ bit? Unless you are going to call him that it probably isn’t needed. As an example, no MSM story would call ex-president Bush ‘Chimpy’ nor would they mention the fact that some of us liberals do, unless they were looking for an excuse to call him Chimpy but weren’t actually willing to drop journalistic integrity. Though really, it does tend to detract from an NPOV to print any nicknames, unless they’re nicknames that the person you are talking about has used publicly.
The prolifers used that term, not him. I just wanted to convey what level of hatred had existed before to this guy.
