This past weekend, Barack and Michelle Obama took a small Gulfstream plane, instead of the classic 747 Air Force One, for a quick visit to Manhattan for dinner and a show.  Something that any couple would do, right?

Frankly, I don’t care that they went to New York.  I almost don’t care they did it on on our dime; well, I do a little, but that can be forgiven.

What I care about is the hypocrisy.

Barack Obama and Democrats, at this very moment, are pushing the largest regressive tax in American history:  cap and trade.  The goal, ultimately, of course is to reduce pollution costs by giving people an incentive to pollute less.

This weekend, the Obamas proved why this will be an utter and total failure.

Here was a couple, who had access to do what they wanted, and did it.  That is freedom, right?  Well, did they think twice about the carbon footprint?  Did they debate incessantly on maybe taking a train up instead?  No, they did what they did because they could afford to, regardless of the impact on the environment.

Then, to compound matters, they hired a second plane to ferry the White House correspondents around…which is ridiculous beyond belief.  No wonder they kiss the ground he walks on…even Jon Stewart thinks it is getting ridiculous.

What does this tell us?  First, it tells us NOTHING about the Obamas.  They wanted to get away, as any family would, and good for them.  But it speaks to our larger society.  Cap-and-trade won’t work because ultimately people will not alter there lives significantly enough for this to work.  It may cost them more to go in the car, but how many people will give up that car?  How many people will give up flying?  Apparently Barack and Michelle Obama decided they were not going to give up flying.

It goes to show you the lack of liberal insight…there plan sounds great, until they look in the mirror.
