Republican Betrayal
I am not an absolutist. I have never believed that all Republicans need to be pro-life, pro-guns, etc. My belief has always been that conservatism can accept a wide array of ideas, some that may differ from the mainstream.
But I am having a difficult time explaining today’s vote even in that light.
The eight Republicans that voted for the amazingly idotic cap-and-trade bill that passed the House of Representatives today really have no defense.
Republicanism and conservatism is a big tent. But at its most basic is the concept that competent and small government is the ideal. First, there can be no competence when these eight members never read the bill they voted for. We know this for a fact. They have no clue why they voted the way they did.
Second, conservatives believe that tax increases are a last resort. This bill made them the central way in order to lower pollution emissions. How is that Republicanism?
I have said before that I consider myself a environmentalists (small E). I think we should increase our fuel and energy efficiency and use more replenishable fuel sources. But this bill was so idiotic on so many levels, it was fatally flawed. Even worse, it will actually increase our dependence on foreign oil, while at the same time cost U.S. jobs. How can any of these candidates defend that?
I for one believe that any Republican that can vote for this incompetent ridiculous bill, without reading the bill I may add, is not a Republican worth having. Heck, I would much rather have one of the 40 moderate Democrats that sensibly voted against this bill than any of the eight that are above. How can you vote for a bill you have not read…heck, that Obama’s own energy czar hasn’t completely read?
I am not an absolutist…but there is a time when a line must be drawn. And this is it.
And to those eight…elephants never forget.

As a constituent of Kirk’s and one who has voted for him consistently (as well as his predecessor John Porter), I am intereted in hearing his explanation before I condemn. I don’t think the bill is all that harmful. It will probably die in the senate. Even if signed into law, I’ll be shocked if deadlines, etc don’t get continually rolled back the way the auto industry has done with mpg requirements over past three decades (courtesy of John Dingell D-MI).
Here is the other way to break it down. Three were from NJ. No great surprise. NJ is a festering cesspool of stupidity. Of course one need only look at the Gubernatorial races to see what is wrong with the Republican party in the state of NJ. There is a decidedly ‘moderate slant.’
Round this out with California, Delaware, New York and Illinois (Obama land) and one can see what the problems are. Now, I have not gone into districts but to be certain these morons are not very conservative on other issues either. However, in some areas people believe in voting for fake democrats and to get elected they need to be like them as conservatives have little chance in those areas.
The largest problem here is that the bill was not thoroughly examined. This is not the first time and it appears it will not be the last. Perhaps it truly is time for change we can all believe in and time to throw out the vast majority of white collar thieves we have ruining (not running) this country.
Shame on these eight. However, these are the few easy ones to be punished by the Republicans. Greater shame starts from the top down. This is a tragedy. However, let it motivate you…
Remember remember the fifth of November!

The trouble with some people is they are “virtuous” liberals, are naive like Jimmy Carter, believe lies & liars, have no moral compass as relativism & humanism is their religion, hate America’s history & culture of freedom, do not like liberty for ALL the people, and want to control everybody else & their money too! Other than that, though, they are nice people. Sort of. Well, in an Obama-like way; as charming as a snake
I see more & more comments on various sites like : THROW OUT ALL INCUMBENTS EVERY ELECTION CYCLE! We don’t need a professional political class. No more better health insurance than most taxpayers; no more better pensions than most taxpayers; no more bills written by lobbyists & think tanks. Talk about saving the country AND money! There you go! Let all politicians have to live by the bills they vote into being. What a great and novel idea: let’s party like, say, Boston TEA Party! Coming near you over 4th of July. Be there, don’t be square!
Whether it dies or not is not the issue…Kirk abdicated his responsibility. Here is a simple question: did he read the bill? If not, he should have voted against it by default.
Very true. It is their duty to know what they are voting for. There is no excuse to be ignorant as to what is in each of the bills put before them to vote upon. These people should not have better than the people they represent in any respect. If social security is good enough for us than yes it should be good enough for them.
Besides, since we elect these charlatans every couple of years (meaning they can be replaced) there is absolutely no reason that they should have extended benefits and more so if they only served a term.
Jim from NJ: What are you thinking? Pelosi rammed this down Congress’ throat so they can gain control of energy and start developing a new tax income stream IMMEDIATELY. Only the “environmental effects” have been put off into the future, not the revenue. Did you know that the bill gives the Feds control over all BUILDING CODES?? They will dictate to every state, county, municipality how houses will be built. What could your congressperson’s possible rationale be for voting for this huge power grab? Is he on track to be the next Arlen Spector or what?
I’d love to hear his rationale for this vote.
