Runnin’ Scared
“”It demonstrates I think better than any of us could ever say that this [] leadership is afraid of their own people, and afraid of the truth and the facts coming out.”
Who said the above quote today? It does have some relevance to our current political dialogue.
Democrats have used every derogatory word in the book for those opposing the liberal version of Health Care reform: Fascists, Nazis, mob rule, unAmerican. Pretty sad that they don’t understand how democracy works. Even funnier that they have no problem when they call Republicans Nazis…but somehow are outraged when they themselves are called the same name, as Rush did today. Even funnier, because Rush was parodying Nancy Pelosi. Hilarious.
Well, the next step for our Democrat bretheren? Avoid the public all together.
Washington State Congressman Brian Baird has said hell to it. Who needs constituents anyway? Instead of defending his positions, he has decided not to bother, and will simply ‘phone it in’ as my buddy Michelle puts it.
Instead of appearing in person, where “extremists” would have “the chance to shout and make YouTube videos,” Baird said Wednesday, he’s holding what he calls “telephone town halls” instead. Baird said he’s using the new system because he fears his political opponents may be planning “an ambush” to disrupt his meetings, using methods Baird compared to Nazism. “What we’re seeing right now is close to Brown Shirt tactics,” Baird, D-Vancouver, said in a phone interview. “I mean that very seriously.”
Pathetic. It gets worse. It seems Obama has called on his Chicagoland tactics, and called in union thugs. The SEIU, a large union group, actually locked out people in Tampa, Fl to prevent them from entering a townhall. Some of the union members actually assaulted some people as well. You will note, that the first time there was violence at any of these meetings, it was instigated by liberals and unions. Simply pathetic.
It isn’t just Democrats though. GOP Cap-and-Tax 8′er Rep. Dave Reichert is also going telephonic for his August 6 town hall. Brilliant. These people are so distanced from the realities of the public, they think that they know their home districts better than the people that live there.
These men, simply, are profiles in courage, I say.
It has gotten bad enough that some Moderate Democrats are asking the DNC to back off the protesters. Apparently, President Obama and Rahm Emanuel didn’t get that message. The White House promised to hit back at these ‘brown-shirt’ protesters:
Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort…
They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.
And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.
“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting…
“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Kind of hard to hit back, when you are cowering in a cave somewhere, isn’t it? And Harry Reid hit upon the key: Democrats feel these are their meetings…not meetings for open dialogue. A brief moment of honesty, Mr. Leader.
In a way, this is a positive. When they are running and hiding, you know we are doing something right. Remember, we are not talking about violent protests here. We are talking about a bunch of (predominantly older) voters, that at most are yelling at people. As liberal Eugene Robinson said in defending Prof. Gates in the police hubub in Boston last week, “You have a right to yell in this country. It is free speech.” Exactly, Eugene, exactly.
These members of Congress are pathetic. They don’t even have the backbone to stand up to a few shouting elderly people? And understand something: there aren’t even that many people shouting. Asking tough questions, demanding answers, sure. But even the shouting isn’t that prevalent.
So the more they run scared, the better barometer of how much we are succeeding.
So who said the quote at the top of this piece? Irony upon irony: Hillary Clinton, speaking about leaders in Iran today: “”It demonstrates I think better than any of us could ever say that this Iranian leadership is afraid of their own people, and afraid of the truth and the facts coming out.” Wow…the same could be said about the Democratic Party.
And remember one thing, Mr. Congressman or Congresswoman: You can run, but you can’t hide….The 2010 election is only 435 days away.
P.S. – If any of you want intelligent, well thought analysis and questions that can be asked to your fellow Congressman, Iwould ask you to see this blog, SCSUScholars. They have some great analysis of specific provisions of the House bill.
Oh, and here is the rational Democrats for you…accusing a Doctor in his own district of being a radical. Lovely.

What’s funny about you baboons is that while you show up on a Friday morning to yell and holler and make yourselves look crazy the rest of the country (the 2/3 majority that supports a single-payer system), we’re all at work doing something with our lives.
Here’s the thing, if you don’t want health care reform, then fine. Do us a favor. Take your dumb-bitch grandma who never worked a day in her life and let her pay her own medical bills instead of pulling down hand-outs from the huge portion of working people who are uninsured but still have to pay for her diabetes medication and Hoveround scooters through Medicaid. We are sick of you lazy, free-loading jackasses.
You people are the reason we’re in this recession. You’ve been wrong about EVERY issue dating back to slavery and instead of apologizing to the nation for your idiocy you moan and wave your hands around like a bunch of spastic retards.
Hey,
Glad you good Christians are doing the right thing by ensuring that your corporate masters are free to continue denying health care claims to dying children so you can sit around collecting your Medicaid checks like the lazy, free-loading hyenas you pieces of old trash are.
Just remember, this debate isn’t over until one group goes silently, and judging by the age of the old hags you get to bark and howl at these town halls it seems like mother nature just may solve the problem for us very quickly.
You can scream and cry all you like, just remember that the moment you cash that Medicaid check you have just proven yourself to be nothing more than a selfish, lying hypocrite (the rest of us know it, but it would be nice if you acknowledged it once and awhile).
What dream world are you in? A majority don’t want a single payer system in any poll. It shows how delusional you really are, as are Democrats in Congress.
First, you are frankly a prejudiced moron, because I AM NO CHRISTIAN.
Second, I am FOR health care reform. I think we should have universal health care. I just don’t think the government is by default the solution, as Obama does.
How is it that free speech cannot be tolerated from the left? Are protests exclusive to foul mouthed individuals who feel they can whip people into submission by cussing at them and throwing a middle finger at them? I believe most of our representatives have forgotten that they represent us all; you, too, Mr./Mrs./Ms Lib! We ALL deserve to have our voices heard, not just leftist propagandists. I came from poverty, and worked my way out of it. I am half hispanic, but never used my race as a free pass. I worked hard and studied hard, looking for ways to educate myself, instead of living off of everyone else. For all intents and purposes, I should be liberal…the difference is that I paid back my loans, and otherwise paid for my own education. I earn my own humble income. The work ethic is absent in liberals, unless it’s to “find a cause” and “reform”. Go out and meet real people, who work hard, pay taxes, and believe in the Constitution as it was written.
